Abstract

Provided is an automobile front structure whereby the damage resistance and repairability of the front of the body of the vehicle are improved and the deceleration of the floor of the vehicle increases rapidly before the amount of axial compressive deformation of a crush box reaches a maximum. In said automobile front structure (10), a dilatant shock absorber (24) comprising a material that has dilatant properties is contained inside a crush box (16) and affixed to the front surface of a front-side member (14). The length (L1) of the dilatant shock absorber (24) in the direction of the length of the vehicle is set such that said shock absorber is subjected to compressive loading between the front-side member (14) and a front-bumper reinforcement (12) when the amount of axial compressive deformation of the crush box (16) reaches or exceeds a set value (L5), said set value being lower than the maximum (L4) amount of axial compressive deformation of the crush box.
